Going Hunting

Job hunting that is! This is one of the most difficult processes for certain. I'm on the lookout for a good job and I have a tough criteria for what defines "good". I'm looking for weekends off, salaried, fast-paced, and a great team of people. I don't want to sell anything to anyone or worry about having to meet stupid standards for a corporation. I'm hoping to find a local company that has strong roots and bosses who actually care about the people that are the heartbeat of their company. Weird, right? I've done office work before, so I'm not averse to sitting in front of a computer, but I need to be able to move around, too. I don't want to be tied to one position as I want to be able to move up and learn new tasks. I've always hated inflexible companies where they decide you can only do one thing. It's very frustrating. that's basically where I am with this right now. I've sent out a few resumes, but I'm being extremely picky with my process. I don't want to settle for something, but I'm also not getting any nibbles. You would figure with all my experience that employers would be excited to have me, however that doesn't seem to be the case. We'll see how that goes.

Dear Corporate

Retail Corporate Office
May 2009

To Whom It May Concern:

You have been in charge of large retail corporations for many decades. As the years pass your companies grow bigger and stronger creating more jobs for "corporate" people. I would be remiss to say that all your years of experience haven't taught you how to run a company, but I feel there are a few things you should know about how your leadership comes across to people. All day long you sit in a 10x10 room and think of ways to "improve" your business. You churn out ideas that try to justify your job and your position in the corporate office. However, your ideas that you have so superfluously distributed never actually seem to develop your companies as a whole. While you sit in front of a computer screen all day you can never know what it is that your "worker bees" actually do without actually working in the stores.
We run your business and we make it stronger yet you reap the all the benefits. I find it extremely disappointing that you think it's a good idea to continually shoot all of your worker bees in the foot on a regular basis just to suit yourself. Eventually your businesses won't be around because you chose to hurt the people who work the hardest. You choose to cut hours but demand the same results. You choose to make changes at the drop of a hat without any thought to the consequences. While the economy has a little to do with why your businesses are doing poorly overall, it has little do with why each store is not achieving results. Eventually, the way you treat people will come back to bite you in the ass, but until then I can hope that you will come to your senses. When I start my own business, I will not let money, power, or the opinion of others blind me. I will speak my mind and stand up for what I believe in instead of blindly following where others lead. I know I will do this because your mistakes have taught me to ignore stupidity and work hard.

In short, you have shown time and again how incapable you are of running a business by the courtesy you fail to give your workers. Realize that your workers owe you nothing as you give nothing that motives them. No money. No hours. No benefits. And the people who make it fun are the people that they work with. People stick with the jobs because they do not like the change, but also because people they work with at the stores make it great. They are the foundation of your companies and without them are you nothing. But from what I can see right now, even with them, you are NOTHING.

Sincerely,
Incogknito

My voting map

Oh, check out my voting map so far. I hope more of you vote, because it'd be cool to see how many people from different states vote. Plus, who voted from Tennessee? A little curious!

Multifaceted

With all the restructuring going on at my job right now, I am realizing new things about myself. I am multifaceted. I am talented. I am motivated. The bottom line is that I'm learning I'm an asset and valuable to a team. I am adaptable and quick. I am not over confident about my abilities, I am just realizing that I am being confident enough. This is a new feeling for me. Seriously, I don't know if I've ever felt like I can do anything before. I am not saying that I don't have room to grow because there is always room for that. I just mean to say that all I need to realize is that I am my own road block. I am the only person that holds me back. Nobody can hold me back unless I let them do that to me.

"No one can make you feel inferior without your consent." I am starting to hold fast to those very wise words from that very strong, smart woman. I spend too much of my time thinking that someone else is going to help me when I should just do it myself.

This leads me to my next endeavor. I am going to start working on starting my online business. I have done tons of research to make sure I'm going about it the right way. Now, I have to actually start making product and branding it. I want everything to be professional and well planned before I begin selling items. Of course, you guys might be able to help me a bit with this. Take this poll and let me know what you think. The idea is that I want something that is meaningful in my title, but related to nature. Of course, I could come up with hundreds of ideas, but these are the few I've been thinking of.

Take this poll for me

This will help me a little bit if I know what appeals to people. Of course, if not enough of you vote then it won't help me at all. If you have other suggestions besides these let me know. I want to include nature in my shop title in some way, but relay the fact that it's eco friendly as well.

Thanks in advance!
